Palmetto State Rollergirls, Inc. is South Carolina’s premiere all-woman roller derby league comprised of some of the state’s most dedicated and fearless women. We are committed to sharing the rowdy action and high-spirited revelry that this great sport has to offer. So, grab your helmet and skate like you mean it!
Though several of the league’s members began skating together in the spring of 2006, the Palmetto State Rollergirls organization was incorporated as a non-profit on September 9, 2006. We play by the rules of the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association, and we remain committed to being run by the skaters for the skaters—always.
Because we are the oldest roller derby league in South Carolina, our history includes several firsts:
- Hosting the state’s first ever flat-track bout, “Cinco de Die-O,” playing against Greenville, SC’s Reedy River Rollergirls on May 6, 2007
- Being the first South Carolina team to play a North Carolina team when we took on Wilmington, NC’s Cape Fear Rollergirls in “Red, Fight, and Bruise” on June 14, 2007
- Organizing the state’s first derby tournament, our four-team round robin “Labor Pains” event held on September 2, 2007, and including teams from Myrtle Beach, Charlotte, Greenville, and Columbia
We’re not resting on our laurels, though. We continue to grow and expand, and in recent years hosting invitationals that have drawn skaters from dozens of different leagues in several states and bouting opponents all over the Carolinas…and beyond.
You should join us. The Palmetto State Rollergirls are always recruiting new female skaters aged eighteen and up, as well as refs, non-skating officials, and volunteers of any gender. If you’re willing to train as an athlete to play a very real, hard-hitting, face-paced sport, then we’d love to have you!
